Basic runes are the simplest runes scribed by Runecrafters, often no more than a single symbol.

Alarm Glyph

Similar to the Alarm spell, this rune sounds a mental or audible alarm each time it is triggered by a creature of Tiny or larger size. When you scribe this rune, you decide whether it triggers when a creature enters the warded area (a 20-ft.-radius emanation centered on the rune, which must be placed on a fixed surface) or when it is touched (such as if it is placed on a weapon, bag, latch, book page, etc...). Ethereal and astral creatures do not trigger either version of this rune, and neither do creatures carrying one of your keystone insignia runes.
When you scribe this rune, you also decide whether its alarm will be audible or mental:
  • Audible Alarm: An audible alarm produces the sound of a hand bell, and anyone within 60 feet of the rune can hear it clearly. Reduce the distance by 10 feet for each interposing closed door and by 20 feet for each substantial interposing wall. In quiet conditions, the ringing can be heard faintly as far as 180 feet away. The sound lasts for 1 round. Creatures within a Silence spell cannot hear the ringing.
  • Mental Alarm: A mental alarm alerts you (and only you) so long as you remain within 1 mile of the rune. You note a single mental "ping" that awakens you from normal sleep but does not otherwise disturb concentration. A Silence spell has no effect on a mental alarm.

Blinding Glyph

This rune blinds a creature for 1d4+1 rounds whenever it is triggered. Once this rune has been triggered, it becomes dormant and cannot be triggered again for 1 minute. When you scribe this rune, you can place it on a fixed surface, an object, or a weapon
  • If placed on a fixed surface, it is triggered by a creature of Tiny or larger size that enters the warded area (a 5-ft.-radius emanation centered on the rune). Ethereal and astral creatures do not trigger this version of this rune, and neither do creatures carrying one of your keystone insignia runes.
  • If placed on an object, it is triggered by a creature of Tiny or larger size that touches the object. Ethereal and astral creatures do not trigger this version of this rune, and neither do creatures carrying one of your keystone insignia runes.
  • If placed on a weapon, it is triggered whenever a creature is damaged by the weapon. The damaged creature can attempt a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) to reduce the duration to 1 round. As a free action, the creature wielding the weapon can choose to not allow the rune to trigger.

Repulsion Glyph

This rune knocks a creature back 1d4x5 feet whenever it is triggered. If a creature knocked back by this rune impacts another creature or object, both it and the impacted creature or object take 1d6 points of damage. Once this rune has been triggered, it becomes dormant and cannot be triggered again for 1 minute. When you scribe this rune, you can place it on a weapon, a fixed surface, or an object.
  • If placed on a fixed surface, it is triggered by a creature of Tiny or larger size that enters the warded area (a 5-ft.-radius emanation centered on the rune). Ethereal and astral creatures do not trigger either version of this rune, and neither do creatures carrying one of your keystone insignia runes.
  • If placed on an object, it is triggered by a creature of Tiny or larger size that touches the object. Ethereal and astral creatures do not trigger either version of this rune, and neither do creatures carrying one of your keystone insignia runes.
  • If placed on a weapon, it is triggered whenever a creature is damaged by the weapon. The damaged creature can attempt a Reflex save (DC 10 + damage dealt) to reduce the distance it is knocked away to 5 feet. As a free action, the creature wielding the weapon can choose to not allow the rune to trigger.

Sickening Glyph

This rune allows you to determine your proximity to other runes you have scribed. While holding the object bearing this rune, you can concentrate as a full-round object while clearly visualizing the rune you seek to sense its direction relative to you.
The effect of this rune is blocked by even a thin sheet of lead, and doesn't work if you are on a different plane from the rune you are visualizing.

Caster Sigil

This rune allows the creature it is scribed onto to channel their magic with more potency, granting a +1 runic bonus on caster level checks (but not on any other uses of its caster level). The bonus is increased by +1 for every 5 caster levels you have — +2 at 5th level, +3 at 10th level, +4 at 15th level, and a maximum of +5 at 20th level.

Durability Sigil

This rune increases the hardness of the object it is scribed onto, adding 2 points of hardness. The amount of hardness is increased by 1 point for every 3 caster levels after 1st — 3 points at 4th level, 4 points at 7th level, and a maximum of 5 points at 10th level or higher.

This rune allows the creature it is scribed onto to execute maneuvers of skill and expertise more adeptly, granting a +2 runic bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, or ability checks made to succeed on an Intimidate check made to demoralize an opponent, a disarm attack, a feint in combat, or a trip attack. The bonus is increased by +1 for every 3 caster levels after 1st — +3 at 4th level, +4 at 7th level, and a maximum of +5 at 10th level or higher.

Obscurance Sigil

If this rune is scribed onto an object, it glows like a torch, shedding bright light in a 20-foot radius (and dim light for an additional 20 feet). The light from this rune doesn't function if taken into an area of magical darkness. This rune is an Evocation effect when used in this way.
If this rune is scribed onto a creature, it instead blurs the creature's outline while within an area of darkness or shadowy illumination, granting 20% concealment. This rune is an Illusion (Glamer) effect when used in this way.

Power Sigil

This rune allows the creature it is scribed onto to more easily overwhelm enemy with displays of sheer strength, granting a +2 runic bonus on attack rolls, grapple checks, or ability checks made to succeed on bull rush, grapple, overrun, or sunder attack. The bonus is increased by +1 for every 3 caster levels after 1st — +3 at 4th level, +4 at 7th level, and a maximum of +5 at 10th level or higher.

Revitalization Sigil

This rune amplifies all magical healing received by the creature it is scribed onto, regardless of whether that healing originates from positive energy, negative energy, or repair. Whenever the creature bearing this rune would be magically healed (whether by spell, spell-like ability, or supernatural ability), the amount of healing it receives is increased by +2 points. The number of bonus points is increased by 1 point for every 3 caster levels after 1st — +3 points at 4th level, +4 points at 7th level, and a maximum of +5 points at 10th level or higher.
If your caster level is 7 or higher, this rune also increases the hitpoints recovered from a full night's rest by the same amount. Any effect that would multiple the recovery (such as undergoing complete bed rest) multiplies this bonus as well.
The effect of this rune never applies to healing caused by fast healing or regeneration.

Skillful Sigil

This rune grants increased competence in a skill. When you scribe this rune, choose a skill (except Speak Language). A creature carrying the object bearing this rune gains a +2 runic bonus on all checks involving that skill. The bonus is increased by +1 for every 3 caster levels after 1st — +3 at 4th level, +4 at 7th level, and a maximum of +5 at 10th level or higher.

Aggression Ward

Bulwark Ward

This rune emanates durability and hardiness, granting DR 1/— to the creature that carries the item bearing this rune. This damage reduction amount stacks with other sources of damage reduction against damage of all types. The damage reduction increases to DR 2/— at 7th level, and to a maximum of DR 3/— at 15th level.

Energy Ward

This rune blunts the damage caused by a specific type of energy. When you scribe this rune, choose one of the five energy types: acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic. The creature carrying the object bearing this rune gains energy resistance 5 against the chosen energy type. The value of the energy resistance granted increases to 10 points at 7th level and to a maximum of 15 points at 15th level. The effect of this rune protects the creature's equipment as well.

Exposure Ward

This rune protects against harsh environments, granting the creature carrying the object bearing this rune the effect of the Endure Elements spell.
If your caster level is 7th or higher, this rune also protects the creature carrying it from from the natural effects of a specific plane, chosen when this rune is scribed, as per the Avoid Planar Effects spell.

Resistance Ward
